Silvair has released the new custom Bluetooth mesh specification for the EnOcean Switch Mesh Proxy Server model, enabling EnOcean self-powered switches to be used together with Bluetooth mesh devices within the same wireless network to implement ‘traditional’ switch-based control of lighting control systems.
The new mesh model, which is a software that translates messages used by EnOcean self-powered switches to standardised Bluetooth mesh messages, is already implemented in the most recent version of Nordic’s SDK (nRF Connect SDK), but it can also be used separately.
“We have been working on this model for some time and now decided to open the specification to anyone who wants to utilise EnOcean switches in Bluetooth mesh,” said Simon Slupik, CTO at Silvair. “We believe in lighting democratisation and see Bluetooth mesh as an interoperable technology platform.”
Matthias Kassner, VP of product marketing at EnOcean, added: “Providing a standardised way to use EnOcean’s self-powered switches within lighting control systems based on Bluetooth mesh significantly simplifies system design and enables unified, interoperable lighting control solutions. We believe that Bluetooth mesh solutions like that of Silvair will play an important role as lighting and IoT data platform and therefore actively support the standardisation work.”
